Angus Genetics, Growth, Gain, Grade

About us

Welcome to zanobiaangus.com! Our herd was started in 1928, with continuous registered and commercial purebred production to the present. The primary focus of the breeding program at Zanobia is growth, grade, gain, and maternal genetics.

It started with a simple goal of achieving four pounds of gain per day in the feedlot and, once that benchmark was reached, evolved into an ever-present mission of producing the ultimate Angus female. We continue to fine-tune that female, which can produce a calf capable of maximum gain, optimum grade, finishing at 12-14 months of age.  Her mothering ability must also be beyond question, with a quiet disposition, sound confirmation, and longevity.  That is the Zanobia Angus female.

Genetics

Focusing on maternal and growth genetics, Zanobia Angus optimizes weaning and yearling weight.  It begins with a live calf from a superior mother.

Growth

The 85 pound calf has the genetic power to wean at 600+ pounds in seven months.  No creep feed is given in our program.  We rely on mama’s milk and buffalo grass.

Gain

Our initial goal was a steer which could gain four pounds a day.  After that benchmark was achieved in the early 1990s, we had the animal which could produce a Prime/Choice carcass at 13-14 months of age.

Grade

And there it is, the ultimate ribeye!  ZA’s Prime/Choice carcass which produces a meal to enjoy:  Flavor, Tenderness, and an Overall Great Eating Experience.
